Hetian jade is nephrite from the Kunlun mountains around Hotan, in Xinjiang — the stone Chinese carvers have worked for thousands of years. It is softer than jadeite at 6.0 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, but tougher, and it polishes to a warm, waxy surface rather than a glassy one. Our largest single group.
